LAMINATING RESIN

 

  • Composition and Properties

  • GEMCOAT LR 4:1 is a two pot epoxy resin formulated for use as a hard, resistant, clear laminating resin for fibreglass, timber, concrete, and other materials.

  • It can also be used as an adhesive, a clear finish coat, and filling cavities (decoupage).

  • When filled with microballons or similar it can be used as a sandable filling coat.

  • It has very good impact resistance, flexibility, and colour stability.

  • It can be tinted with the correct tinters – contact GemCo Ltd.

  • Physical properties

  • Appearance: Base - low viscosity clear liquid Hardener - low viscosity clear liquid

  • Odour: low odour

  • Flammability: non flammable

  • Solids: 100%

  • Coating Type: Epoxy

  • Packaging: 1.25, 5, 20 litre ,two part pack (also available in 200L drums)

  • Mix ratio: 4:1(base : hardener)

  • Pot Life: Approximately 30min @ 20 °Celsius (122g mix)

  • Coverage: 5-10 sq metres/litre typical ( depends on substrate)

  • Cure to Recoat: Typically overnight - will vary according to temperature & humidity

  • Surface Preparation

  • All contaminants must be removed from surfaces to be laminated.

  • A test patch is recommended if the product has not been used before.

  • Sanding between coats is recommended

  • Method of Application

  • Add 1 part hardener to 4 parts base (by volume) and thoroughly mix - a drill with a mixing blade is recommended.

  • Mixing small quantities at a time is recommended particularly in hot climates.

  • GEMCOAT LR 4:1 is applied by brush or roller when laminating.

  • GEMCOAT LR 4:1 should be recoated within 24 hours – sanding between coats is recommended after 24 hours.

  • GEMCOAT LR 4:1 can be cut & polished although this not usually necessary.

  • When filled with microballons or similar it can be used as a sandable filling coat.

  • Fumed silica or similar can be used to thicken GEMCOAT LR 4:1 for use as an adhesive.

  • Handling Precautions

  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

  • Do not ingest.

  • Use with adequate ventilation.

  • Protective clothing ,eye protection, and gloves should be worn.

  • Do not breathe vapor or spray.

  • Keep away from children.
