CHEMICAL & ABRASION RESISTANT PUTTY

 

  • Composition and Properties

  • GEMCOAT CR 1:1 HV is a chemical & abrasion resistant putty.

  • It is formulated as a chemical & abrasion resistant lining for pumps, and can be machined before full cure.

  • It can be used in many other applications where chemical & abrasion resistance are required.

  • It is formulated to have resistance to most concentrated acids & alkalais, and many other commonly used chemicals – consult with GemCo for suitability for use.

  • Physical properties

  •  Appearance: Base - pigmented paste; Hardener - pigmented paste

  • Odour: low odour

  • Solids: 100 %

  • Coating Type: Epoxy

  • Packaging: 1kg & 2kg two part pack

  • Mix ratio: 1 part base :1 part hardener

  • Pot Life: 1/2 hour approximately at 20 degrees Celsius (100g mix)

  • Coverage: 0.75 sq metres/kg @ 0.5 mm ; 0.13 sq m/kg @ 5 mm DFT.

  • Dry hard 4 hours to tack free @ 25 C ; minimum of 48 hours @ 25 ° C before full service OR force cure for 16 hours @ 50° C.

  • Surface Preparation

  • Steel : Blast with a suitable abrasive to near white metal (SSPC 10/SA 2.5 standard).

  • If this is not possible remove loose material by mechanical cleaning (grinding or similar).

  • Clean surface with solvent based cleaner.

  • All surfaces must be free of dust or other contaminants before applying GEMCOAT CR 1:1 HV.

  • Method of Application

  • Add 1 part hardener to 1 part base (by volume)

  • Thoroughly mix with a drill & mixing blade or mix thoroughly for 2 minutes with a square bladed putty knife – good mixing is important to get good performance.

  • GEMCOAT CR 1:1 HV is applied by putty knife or similar.

  • Allow to cure 24 hours then if possible then force cure for 16 hours @ 50° C.

  • Allow 7 days cure before putting into service.

  • Handling Precautions

  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

  • Do not ingest.

  • Use with adequate ventilation.

  • Protective clothing ,eye protection, and gloves should be worn.

  • Do not breathe vapor or spray.

  • Keep away from children.
