Composition and Properties

GEMCOAT AB is an ablative antifouling.

It is formulated to give extended
protection against marine fouling.

It has excellent coverage and can be
applied in one heavy coat.

Extra coats can be applied for extra life.
-
It does not contain tin based poisons, and
has a low odour user friendly and environmentally friendly solvent system.

It can be applied over most antifoulings,
GEMCOAT EPR (epoxy primer), or GEMCOAT EPF (epoxy finish) coat) before
they have cured hard.

It is not suitable for use on aluminium
vessels.

Surface Preparation
-
When re-antifouling GEMCOAT AB can be
applied over itself, and most types of antifoulings.

All oil, grease , and other contaminants
must be removed (GEMPREP 2000) is recommended.

If applied over GEMCOAT EPR (epoxy primer)
or GEMCOAT EPF (epoxy finish coat) ensure that these epoxy Coatings have
not cured hard – check they are still soft to finger pressure.

If necessary recoat the epoxy coating with
a thin coat then apply GEMCOAT AB. Method of Application

Stir well before application. DO NOT THIN
as the life of the coating is affected.

GEMCOAT AB is applied by spray, brush , or
roller – roller is the preferred method.

Dry to recoat is normally overnight but
will vary depending on temperature & humidity.

Can be sprayed with conventional pressure
pot if thinned 20% with GEMSOLV 2P

Rolling & brushing is preferred method as a
better build is achieved than spraying

Handling Precautions
-
Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not
ingest. Use with adequate ventilation.

Protective clothing ,eye protection, and
gloves should be worn.

Do not breathe vapor or spray. Keep away
from children.
