Epoxy Industrial Floor Coating - UV Resistant

GEMCOAT EFC 2:1 is a solvent free, self levelling epoxy floor coating. It has excellent UV resistance & can be tinted to range of colours. It is suitable for application alone or over GEMCOAT EFS epoxy sealer. It is formulated to give a hard, abrasion resistant coating which is capable of handling most floor traffic such as forklifts, cars, etc.

It is ideal for factory floors, dairy sheds, garages, changing rooms, toilet and shower blocks etc. One or two coats are usually sufficient GEMCOAT EFC 2:1 has excellent chemical resistance – consult GemCo

Physical properties

  • Appearance: Base - pigmented liquid; Hardener – clear liquid
  • Odour: low odour
  • Coating Type: Epoxy
  • Packaging: 1.5, 6, 30 litre two part pack
  • Mix ratio: 2:1 by volume
  • Pot Life: 20 min approximately at 20°C (750ml mix)
  • Coverage: 5 sq metres/litre @ 200 microns DFT(theoretical - depends on substrate)
  • Dry to Re-coat: Typically overnight - will vary according to temperature
  • Dry hard 24 hours for light foot traffic, 7 days full cure
  • Heat resistance Up to 150°C maximum – user must test in their application

Surface Preparation & Application

  • Concrete must be 28 days old.
  • All oil, grease, and other contaminants must be removed (GEMPREP 2000 is recommended).
  • Remove laitance (alkaline salts on the surface formed during concrete cure) by either acid etching with 5 -10 % hydrochloric or grinding.
  • Loose rust, scale, and old paint must be removed.
  • If applied over GEMCOAT EFS epoxy sealer ensure that surfaces are free of contaminants. Mixing & Application
  • Mixing : thoroughly mix using a drill with a mixing blade.
  • Small mixes of 3 litres or less are recommended particularly in hot weather.
  • It can be thinned with up to 5% acetone if required – this will give a longer pot life
  • GEMCOAT EFC 2:1 is applied by brush , or roller in one heavy coat.
  • Do not apply if air temperature or substrate are below 5°C.
  • It is preferable to apply at 10°C or greater.
  • Rolling: Rolling is preferred method of application with a good quality 8mm mohair roller
  • Keep a wet edge and DO NOT go back over areas already rolled as this can leave roller marks and shade differences.
  • Dry to re-coat is normally overnight but will vary depending on temperature.
  • GEMCOAT EFC 2:1 can be applied over with GEMCOAT EFS epoxy floor sealer.
  • It may be applied while GEMCOAT EFC is still tacky.
  • An approved applicator must be used for preparation & application of GEMCOAT EFC 2:1 and it must be applied as per the relevant specification.
  • GEMCOAT EFC 2:1 is suitable for its intended use, when mixed and applied according to specification to a properly prepared substrate.
  • This does not cover physical abuse or impact damage to the system, damage caused by movement of the substrate, faulty substrate, substrate contamination, failure to regularly maintain the coating system, or normal wear and tear.

Handling Precautions

  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not ingest. Use with adequate ventilation.
  • Protective clothing ,eye protection, and gloves should be worn.
  • Do not breathe vapour or spray. Keep away from children.
